Act Justly, Love Kindness, Walk Humbly
“We Don’t Eat Our Classmates” by Ryan T. Higgins is a favourite book in my household. It tells the story of a little T-Rex, named Penelope Rex, who is about to start school for the first time. She has so many questions and wonders: What will her classmates be like? Will they be nice? How many teeth will they have? As she goes through her day, she tries her best to make some new friends and learns some important lessons along the way. Penelope soon understands how to make friends and how to treat others who may be different from her. She is ready for a great year.
It is easy to relate to Penelope Rex. Whether you are new to Menno or returning after summer break, the start to a new year always holds so many possibilities. Will you make a new friend? Will you have a new teacher? Will you have a locker for the first time? Will you join a sports team or club? Only time will tell. We are so excited to invite you in for another amazing school year!
Last year, we learned how we are God’s masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10). Each member of our school community is unique; crafted with care and purpose by the Creator Himself. This year, our theme verse comes from Micah 6:8. “He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God”. We plan to spend time together on a journey with God as we learn how to walk with integrity, with compassion, in service, with forgiveness, and with humility. Just as Penelope Rex had much to learn as she settled into her new classroom, we also will enter into our community together looking for ways to learn from one another and support each other.
At Menno, we are committed to fostering an environment that celebrates community, encourages growth, and embraces the potential that lies within each of us. Welcome to the 2024/25 school year!
