Hello! My name is Katelyn South and I am privileged to be working as the Family School Liaison Counsellor here at Menno Simons Christian School. I graduated from Gonzaga University in 2022 where I received my Master in Counselling.
I have varied experience working with children, youth, and families in both a therapeutic setting as well as a supportive role. My experience includes, but is not limited to, supporting clients who experience depression, anxiety, anger, perfectionism, grief, ADHD, self-harm, self-esteem, and emotional regulation. Additionally, I have worked with these individuals and family systems through a range of issues such as addiction, struggles in relationships, school stress, loneliness, and transitional change.
My practice is grounded in Person-Centered, Emotion-Focused, and Attachment theories. I draw from evidence-based interventions to help foster healing and the discovery of one's inner voice. Every individual is the expert of their own experience and becomes who they are based on their reaction to their understanding of this. I believe that all people have the capacity for growth, but it is their inner narrative and social experience that drives this desire for change.
My goal is to help facilitate self-awareness and connect a deeper meaning of self through emotional attunement, strengthening self-esteem, and exploring the acceptance of self. It is important to me that every person who walks through my door is met with kindness, empathy, and respect; therefore, cultivating a trusting and safe environment is a consistent priority in my practice.
